Tomorrow's food
The earth is facing a problem with consumerism in terms of sustainability. This work portrays my vision of a future where fresh food has been replaced by pills. Three different stages of the development of this pill are shown in the images: the original, real food, the scientific development of a pill form, and the consumption of this new pill, replacing the eating of the actual fruit. In this scenario fresh, clean and natural fruit are a distant memory as the pills are eaten from bowls shaped like a 'shell' of an apple.
I wanted to create two different versions in order to experiment with different techniques of bringing the idea to life. Both outcomes ended up being 'childish' to some extent. In the first I used playdoh to create the subjects and the second, made with pixels in Photoshop, looks like material from a fun video game. This ended up working quite nicely as both relate to the somewhat childish imagination I had in the first place when thinking of the idea for these works.
